Caregivers Home and Youth Care Workers Ratify Collective Agreement

ST. JOHN’S, NL– Home and youth care workers with Caregivers Inc., who are members of The Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public and Private Employees (NAPE), have voted in favour of ratifying their new collective agreement. The new collective agreement covers approximately 550 home and youth care workers across Newfoundland and Labrador.
The tentative agreement is based on the template for the ‘Group of 17’ agencies and includes monetary increases in wages as well as improvements in contract language. Since NAPE is still at the bargaining table with several home care agencies, details of the agreement will not be released at this time so as to not affect the remaining sets of negotiations.
“We are very happy to reach this result after such a long set of negotiations,” said NAPE President Jerry Earle. “I would like to congratulate the bargaining team for their hard work and determination in reaching a deal that was favourable to home and youth care workers at Caregivers. Reaching this agreement ensures that they can focus on providing top quality support and care for those in need across our province.”
NAPE is still in various stages of bargaining with the following home care agencies: Tender Loving Care, South Coast Home Care, All Care Home Support, Angel’s Touch Home Care, Caring Hands Home Care, Placentia Home Care/Home Sweet Home, and In Home Health Care.
The Union is hopeful that ratified agreements with the Group of 17 and Caregivers will lead to a speedy resolution to these remaining sets of negotiations.
