ST. JOHN’S, NL– The Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public and Private Employees (NAPE) launched a public relations advertising campaign today. The first ad in a forthcoming series focuses on the negative impact Premier Ball’s policies and actions have had on the province’s people and our economy. The series will be run province-wide on a wide array of platforms.

“During the last election and numerous times since, this government has promised the people of the province a strong and diversified economy, no layoffs, better outcomes, and a responsive government. We were all promised a ‘Stronger Tomorrow’”, said NAPE President Jerry Earle. “Here we are, less than a year and a half later, many of those promises have been broken, the economy is in a downward spiral, unemployment is surging, youth are leaving, and many are living in fear and uncertainty about what’s to come.”

“The impact of this government’s actions have been felt far and wide – from the young to our elderly and most vulnerable. The public sector cuts, layoffs, and closures have been hitting our rural communities the hardest,” said Earle. “Unemployment is up. Inflation is up. Bankruptcies are up. There are more people using food banks. We’re the only province in recession. And the list goes on and on. Is this the stronger tomorrow we were promised?”

“We are very concerned about what’s to come in this week’s budget. If it’s anything like the 2016 budget – or worse – our province’s economy could be sent into a complete tailspin,” said Earle. “Clearly the approach taken by this government is not working. The people of this province deserve a plan that actually moves the province forward, not set us back. So far, all we’ve seen is this Premier and his government make things worse.”
