MEMBER UPDATE ON UNION EFFORTS: COVID-19
(March 17, 2020)

Dear NAPE Member,

We are dealing with a massive volume of calls and messages on this unprecedented situation, which is evolving hourly.

Out of necessity, your union is dealing almost exclusively with issues related to COVID-19 at this stage.

We are working tirelessly to ensure employers are implementing and communicating protocols, procedures, PPE, best practices, etc.…

We have been in constant contact with government and health officials to relay your concerns and push for action to address them – sometimes on an issue by issue basis as they arise.

We are working on the issue of openings of non-critical offices.

We believe that a number of government offices and services should either be done from home, closed to the public, or severely limited in terms of public openings.

For public-facing jobs and worksites – we are pushing employers to implement policies and procedures to limit foot traffic and unfettered public access to allow for the recommended social distancing guidelines.

Your health, safety, and well-being is our number one priority.

We have reached out to the government on the issue of child care for those who do not have any options. Unfortunately, at this stage, we have no new information about how this will be addressed.

These are but a few of the many issues and concerns that we are addressing at the moment.

This is an incredibly complex and unprecedented situation.

Please contact NAPE at 1-800-563-4442 and ask to speak to an available servicing representative if you have questions, comments, or concerns and we will do our best to answer or address them as quickly as possible.

We are no strangers to adversity. Like always, we will get through this by working together and having each other’s backs.

We are working around the clock to address your questions, emails, calls, and the situation at large.

Thank you for your patience and understanding at this time.
We’re all in this together.

In solidarity,

Jerry
