The NAPE Young Workers Conference is organized by NAPE’s Young Workers Committee.

The goal of the Conference is to bring NAPE members under the age of 35 together to discuss issues important to young workers and learn skills they can bring back to their workplaces and communities.

2018 Young Workers Conference


NAPE will be holding a Young Workers’ Conference on November 16, 17 and 18, 2018 (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) inclusive, at the Terra Nova Resort and Golf Community, Port Blandford.

Selection will be made for individuals aged 35 and under on a Province-wide basis with consideration being given to equal regional and gender representation.

Application Deadline

The Young Workers’ Committee will make selections no later than October 22, 2018.

The Committee will be compiling a wait list, therefore, if you apply and cannot attend, it is important that you inform us immediately since the Committee will be “backfilling” from the waitlist.


Transportation for the Conference will be provided by charter bus (one leaving from St. John’s and another leaving from Port Aux Basques) for the island portion of the province. Airfare and ground transportation will be provided for those attending from Labrador. The cost of this travel will be covered by NAPE.  Please indicate on the registration form whether or not transportation is required.


Registration will be held on Friday, November 16, from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. in the main lobby of the Resort.  Please make every attempt to register as early as possible in order to accommodate the evening meal and the plenary session being held that same evening.


Accommodations will be provided to all registrants (double occupancy).  If you require a single room you must pay half the cost and let us know as soon as possible as rooms are at a premium.  Accommodations cannot be changed upon arrival at the facility.

Should an attendee choose to arrange other accommodations, the amount payable under the Union’s policy is $25.00 per night plus $10.00 incidental expense.  These amounts will not apply to area residents.

Time off

You are expected to arrange your own time off; however, where required, your Union will assist you with any support letter your Employer may request, e.g. date and time of school, proof of attendance, etc.

The Conference will consist of guest speakers, break-out groups, courses, and socials.

The following courses are being tentatively scheduled and each registrant will complete each on a rotational basis:

  1. Young Workers Focus Group – What issues do young workers face and what can we do to address them?
  2. Social Media in the Workplace – Do’s and Don’t’s of Social Media Use.
  3. Your Union and You – What does the Union do and why is it important?
  4. Bridging the Gap – Bridging the divide of younger and older workers in the workplace.

Successful applicants will be notified immediately following the selection date.
